Why does the country of Haiti hold such a big piece of my heart?

To make a long story short, Haiti will always hold a dear place in my heart because it is where my love story began! In 2011 I met my husband when we both signed up for a mission trip to the Wings of Refuge Children's Home in Port-au-Prince. A home that was founded after the country was hit by a devastating earthquake in 2010.

This trip changed my life in so many ways that I am forever thankful for - not only did I happen to meet the love of my life, but it opened by eyes to the beauty of this world. It taught me not to take everyday things for granted. The children taught me love, kindness, gratitude and faith!

I am reminded of all of these wonderful things at the Annual Spring Banquet, an amazing night of fundraising and spreading the word about the children's home. This is not an orphanage, but a home and a family.  One that has grown from 16 children back in 2011 to 32 wonderful, smart, conscientious young citizens that are ready to change the world for the better!

My husband and I love supporting this organization and sponsoring our sweet Clifford and always enjoy the banquet as a great night out. This years banquet featured a HUGE Marketplace with amazing items that are all ethically handmade (with love) in Haiti and directly supports the children and the home, and yes - we came home with a ton of things! Their "The Best is Yet To Come" piece is my FAVORITE, you should check it out too!
